President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan met with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, to discuss the ongoing expansion of strategic cooperation between the two countries, according to the president’s official website.

During the meeting, President Rahmon emphasized that China remains one of Tajikistan's most significant economic, trade, and investment partners, playing a leading role in the country's foreign economic relations. He underscored the importance of strengthening multifaceted cooperation within the framework of the Tajik-Chinese strategic partnership.

President Rahmon also highlighted the positive outcomes of his recent meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, noting their importance in shaping bilateral relations this year.

Minister Wang Yi praised Tajikistan’s development under President Rahmon’s leadership, stating, “I am confident in your country’s continued progress. Rapid development is visible everywhere. As the founder of your state and the Leader of the Nation, you prioritize your people and their well-being. We highly value your governance model.”

The meeting addressed a wide range of cooperation areas, including support for China’s new global initiatives such as the Global Governance concept. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the effective functioning of mechanisms for political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.

A two-way trade between the two nations reportedly surpassed $2 billion over the first ten months of 2025, with cooperation covering key strategic sectors such as mining, transport, energy, and agriculture.

The two sides also expressed mutual interest in expanding collaboration in digital economy development, artificial intelligence, and green technology.

Tajikistan voiced its intent to increase agricultural exports to the Chinese market, seeking greater access and a broader product range.

Security cooperation featured prominently in the talks, with both sides reaffirming their joint commitment to combating terrorism, extremism, religious radicalism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, and other forms of transnational organized crime.

Cultural and educational ties were also a point of discussion. President Rahmon thanked the Chinese government for its scholarship programs for Tajik students and expressed interest in expanding these opportunities, especially in high-demand academic fields.

Finally, the two sides reviewed cooperation within international and regional frameworks, particularly the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). President Rahmon thanked China for supporting the establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe and discussed improving multilateral mechanisms in the Central Asia–China format, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Meanwhile, Xinhua reports that Emomali Rahmon said that in recent years, Tajikistan-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has grown rapidly. China has become Tajikistan's largest trading partner and biggest source of investment, and Tajikistan is full of confidence in the prospects of bilateral relations.

Tajik leader reportedly said that Tajikistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle, adding that China plays an increasingly important leading role in international affairs.
