DUSHANBE, June 6, Asia-Plus - On Tuesday June 6, President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Iran’s Deputy Energy Minister for Water Affairs Rasoul Zargar.

According to presidential press service, in the course of the talks the two discussed issues related to implementation of documents that were singed during the last visit of President Rahmon to Iran in early May.  

The source at presidential press service said that Dr. Zargar and Tajik Energy and Industries Sherali Gulov had informed President Rahmon on a trip of the Iranian delegation to the construction site for the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant, which is being constructed with participation of Iranian capital, as well as places for construction of a 1000 MW Shurob hydropower plant and a 160 MW Ayni power plant that will also be constructed with participation of Iranian capital and specialists.  

According to the source, preparatory work and delivery and special machines and equipment are nearing completion at the construction site for the Santuda-2.  

Dr Rasoul Zargar noted that a group of Iranian specialists will arrive in Tajikistan next week to conduct geological survey in the places for the Shurob and Ayni power plants.  

Rasoul Zargar, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Dushanbe on June 2. 

The visit of the Iranian energy delegation to Tajikistan will last till June 7, and the main purpose of the visit is for the delegation to study issues related to construction of the Santuda-2 hydropower plant in Tajikistan as well as familiarize itself with projects for construction of small power plants in Tajikistan.

We will recall that during his visit to Iran in early May, President Rahmon called on high-ranking Iranian state officials to expand relations and identified the areas of hydropower, transportation, and industry as Tajikistan’s priorities for attracting greater Iranian investment.
