DUSHANBE, January 23, Asia-Plus - On Tuesday January 22, Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev held a meeting with participation of senior representatives from the capital mayor’s office and Tajik state-controlled energy company Barqi Tojik to discuss the power supply situation.
Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said that the Barqi Tojik head Sharifkhon Samiyev had informed those present of the power supply situation and asked the Dushanbe municipal authorities for assistance with explaining the forced measures to reduce electricity supplies to the population.
The mayor demanded at the meeting that measures should be taken to ensure supply of electricity to schools, kindergartens, medical facilities and multi-storey housing.
The mayor also proposed to work out projects aimed at constructing small hydropower plants in Dushanbe, the spokesman said.
He also ordered to temporarily cut off electricity supplies to bathhouses and other facilities, which are not of primary importance and organize realization of coal and firewood on the city markets.
