DUSHANBE, February 6, Asia-Plus -- Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding has ignored a letter by Deputy Dushanbe Mayor, Jamshed Mansourov, of February 4, which says that a decision on introduction of rotational power cutoffs or reduction of electricity supplies to Dushanbe should be based only government’s resolution, and introduced electricity rationing in some areas of the city, a statement released by the commission for controlling power supplies at the Dushanbe mayor’s office today said.
According to the statement, the measure introduced by Barqi Tojik resulted in the supply of daily electrical power being reduced by seven hours (residential consumers in these areas do have electricity from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.).
“Commission also noted that Barqi Tojik should inform residents about power cutoffs through media and clarify reasons for these measures,” Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said.
The spokesman reminded that cycling power cutoffs introduced in some areas of Dushanbe on January 16 were effective till January 31 and were lifted in February.
