DUSHANBE, May 29, Asia-Plus – The Dushanbe mayo’s office intends to reintroduce ticketing system on public transport.
Speaking to reporters, deputy Dushanbe Mayor, Abdulhomid Sheraliyev, said on May 28 that to provide the Dushanbe population with passenger transport services further 116 buses with carrying capacity of 90 seats each are needed.
“To improve passenger transport services 29.5 million somonis have been allocated for this year,” said the deputy mayor, “However, some 48 million somonis are need to complete this work.”
According to him, rise in public transport fares that will be introduced in the city beginning on June 1 will also facilitate enhancement of the passenger transport services in Dushanbe.
He noted that although gasoline prices have risen two-three times over the past two years, the public transport fares have changed since 2006.
On reintroduction of the ticketing system on the public transport, Sheraliyev noted that there are some factors impeding reintroduction of the system. Among them he named the fact people mainly use services of private passenger transport.
The deputy mayor said that Dushanbe’s public transport enterprises now have 104 trolleybuses, 97 minivans and 284 buses with carrying capacity of 35 seats.
