DUSHANBE, December 24, 2009, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday December 23, President Emomali Rahmon met with representatives of scientific and educational circles of the country.
The meeting dedicated to declaration of 2010 as Year of Education and Technical Knowledge in Tajikistan took place at the Center for Strategic Studies in Dushanbe.
Representative from the Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Education, universities as well as public associations and international organizations active in the country attended the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Rahmon underlined the importance of improvement of the material and technical basis of educational facilities and use of modern technologies in education.
He charged the ministries of finance, economy and education to take all necessary measures to ensure implementation of the national education computerization program on time. According to him, educational facilities have been provided with 27,000 computers to this day.
Rahmon also pointed to the necessity of establishing new schools with exact and natural sciences bias. He, in particular, charged the Ministry of Education to established republican presidential lyceum for talented children in Dushanbe by 2011. This lyceum to accommodate 1,000 pupils will accept talented children from all regions of the country.
Dwelling on education of the rising generation, the president pointed out role of parents in fostering children. He stressed that there was necessity to adopt a law on the duties of parents towards their children. Rahmon ordered the Ministry of Education and other relevant organizations to work out such a draft law that should be in compliance with the Convention of the Rights of the Child and other international documents ratified by Tajikistan.
Rahmon also offered to review the structure of the Academy of Sciences, noting that financing of the Academy of Sciences will be subject to efficiency of its activity and if scientific and research activities do not yield any significant results, the public financing of the Academy of Sciences will be stopped.
