DUSHANBE, September 2, 2010, Asia-Plus -- By president’s decree Saymumin Yatimov, formerly deputy chairman of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), has been appointed to head GKNB, replacing Hayriddin Abdurahimov, who has resigned on his own, presidential press service reported today.
Born in Khatlon province in 1955, Saymumin Yatimov received his secondary education in Kulob before graduating in 1976 from Kulob Teachers’ Training Institute, Faculty of Tajik Language and Literature. In 2003, he graduated from Tajik National University, Faculty of Law.
Yatimov has Doctor’s degree in Political Sciences. He speaks Russian, Persian, and English.
In 1996-1997, Saymumin Yatimov served as Ambassador at Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). In 1997-2000, he served as Counselor, Tajik Embassy in Tehran, Iran. In 2000-2005, Yatimov served as Deputy Security Minister of Tajikistan. In 2005-2007, he served as the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan.
From May 2007 to May 2010, Saymumin Yatimov served as Ambassador of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of Belgium, Head of the Missions of Tajikistan to the European Community (EC), NATO and UNESCO. From May 2010 to September 2, 2010, he served as the deputy chairman of GKNB.
Saymumin Yatimov is married with five children.
