DUSHANBE, July 1, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today held a meeting to discuss issues related to ongoing grain harvesting campaign, providing markets with food products, rendering assistance to vulnerable sections of the population and preparations for winter.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the meeting participants included senior representatives from the agrarian sector and heads of a number of suburban districts.

Speaking at the meeting, President Rahmon noted that basic food prices have shown an upward trend though fuel and forage prices have fallen in the country.  This is evidence of an artificial rise in prices for basic food products, especially meat, the president said.

Heads of the suburban districts reportedly committed themselves to take measures to ensure the decline in prices for basic food products at Dushanbe’s markets.
