Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament today ratified an agreement on providing preferential loan to Tajikistan for rehabilitation of road and construction of a flyover in Dushanbe.
Speaking at the Majlisi Namoyandagon session, Deputy Finance Minister, Ms. Mehrinamo Jonmamadova, noted that the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) had provided a US$27.5 million loan for implementation of the Dushanbe-Uzbekistan Border Road Improvement Project
The agreement was reportedly signed in Beijing, China in June this year.
The Project covers rehabilitation and upgrade of the 62-kilometer road linking the city of Dushanbe to the Uzbek border.
The road consists of 5 sections. The upgrade of Sections 2 to 5 (from Western Gate of Dushanbe to the Tajik – Uzbek border) of approximately 57 km in length was financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant. Section 1 of approximately 4.6 km in length is located within the urban area (between the Avicenna Monument to the Western Gate of Dushanbe) and includes 82nd roundabout and Avicenna roundabout.
The EBRD and AIIB loan covers the financing required to complete Section 1 and thus complete the whole road.
Recall that China Xinjiang Beixin Construction & Engineering (Group) Co. Ltd. has won a tender construction of the flyover in Dushanbe. Ten companies, primarily from China, have participated in the tender.
The estimated budget for construction of this flyover is nearly 25.5 million U.S. dollars.
Rehabilitation of the road from Avicenna Monument to the Western Gate of Dushanbe is expected to be completed in 2020.
The AIIB is a multilateral development bank that focuses on the development of infrastructure and other productive sectors in Asia, including energy and power, transportation and telecommunications, rural infrastructure and agriculture development, water supply and sanitation, environmental protection, urban development and logistics.
