On Thursday August 13, President Emomali Rahmon received Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksey Overchuk, who arrived in Tajikistan on a working visit, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
At the beginning of the meeting, Rahmon reportedly expressed satisfaction with appointment of Overchuk as co-chairman of the Tajik-Russian intergovernmental commission or trade and economic cooperation and emphasized the significance of concerted and effective activity of this important mechanism of regulation and expansion of cooperation between the two countries in different field.
Rahmon and Overchuk reported discussed a broad range of issues related to the state and prospects of further expansion of multisided partnership between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.
Tajik leader, in particular, noted that Tajikistan attached significance to its strategic partnership with Russia.
Rahmon outlined sectors like energy, agriculture and processing of metals as areas, which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.
In the course of the talks, a special attention was given to the labor migration issues, particularly the issue of strengthening of legal and social protection of labor migrants.
Along with this, they also discussed the issues of providing educational facilities in Tajikistan with Russian language teachers and textbooks as well as expansion of the network of Russian-language schools in the Tajikistan.
In the course of the Talks, Rahmon and Overchuk also exchanged views on a number of issues being of mutual interest.
