DUSHANBE, February 28, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Another alleged activist of the outlawed extremist religious group Hizb ut-Tahrir has been detained in Sughd province.
According to the Interior Ministry, Khujand resident, H.A., 45, was arrested on February 26 on suspicion of active membership in Hizb ut-Tahrir.
“The preliminary investigation has established that H.A. joined Hizb ut-Tahrir in 2000 and during several years, he had been involved in distributing propaganda materials on behalf of the banned extremist movement,” source said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against H.A. and an investigation is under way. The usual charges against Hizb ut-Tahrir members are inciting religious hatred, seeking to overthrow the constitutional order, and membership in a criminal organization.
