QURGHON TEPPA, September 29, 2011, Asia-Plus -- A 30-year-old national of China has been detained with narcotics in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of the southern Khatlon province.
According to the Khatlon regional prosecutor’s office, he was detained on September 28 and 684 grams of hashish and little more than one gram of heroin were confiscated from him.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained Chinese national under the provisions of Article 200 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – drug trafficking; an investigation is under way.
Meanwhile, the head of the Migration Service’s office in Khatlon province, Husniddin Zardiyev, says 300 foreigners, including 95 Chinese nationals, are currently living in the province.
19 cases of infringement of the law involving foreign citizens have been registered in the area this year; offenders have been fined a total of 22,000 somoni and three Afghans have been deported, Zardiyev said.
