DUSHANBE, July 9, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Positions of both Moscow and Dushanbe are based on indisputability of the policy aimed at strengthening ties of partnership and alliedness between Russia and Tajikistan.
The Russian MFA spokesman Alexander Lukashevich remarked this while commenting on the prospects of the presence of the Russian military base in Tajikistan. According to him, this position was confirmed during a meeting of the presidents of the two countries in Moscow on May 15.
The Russian MFA official considers that Russia and Tajikistan adhere strictly to a broad bilateral cooperation as well as interaction within regional organizations.
“Allied ties between the two countries within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) meet mutual interests of both countries. As it is known, the Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan is part of the CSTO rapid-deployment force and it is aimed to provide security of all CSTO member nations,” the Russian MFA spokesman said.
According to him, the process of negotiations regarding deployment of the Russian military base in Tajikistan is developing dynamically. Lukashevich added that both sides were interested in successful completion of that work.
