Today, on January 26, in the city of Buston in the Sughd region of Tajikistan, another round of talks on the delimitation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border took place, as reported by NIAT "Khovar" with reference to the State Committee on National Security of Tajikistan. Co-chairs of the government delegations, Saimumin Yatimov from Tajikistan and Kamchybek Tashiev from Kyrgyzstan, discussed the next steps in the delimitation and demarcation of the border.
The main focus of the meeting was on developing specific tasks for the groups involved in the demarcation of the state border, especially in those areas where the border has not yet been defined. No other details are reported.
As previously reported, a similar meeting took place from January 10 to 15 of this year in the city of Batken, Kyrgyzstan. Following the meeting, the working groups agreed on 38.35 km of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, and a corresponding protocol was signed. On January 12, Saimumin Yatimov and Kamchybek Tashiev held talks in Batkent.
According to Yatimov's statement, the two countries reached a fundamental agreement on the directions of Kulundu, Maksat, Arka. "We discussed the fundamental issues. There were crucial moments, such as the directions of Kulundu, Maksat, Arka, and Khistewarz. A fundamental agreement has been reached on these issues. We have prepared a protocol, a document. All parties fully agree. We will take a very significant step forward," he said.
Kamchybek Tashiev also noted that there is already an agreement on these sections. "Today, we have fundamentally agreed on some sections of our state border. In particular, from the village of Maksat to the 'meeting points.' This is about 15 km of land. We have fundamentally agreed, and now it remains for our working groups to describe all the sections," he stated.
Earlier, after a meeting with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on January 10, the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the Agreement on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is expected to be signed in March. Earlier, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov announced plans to complete all work on the demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border by spring 2024.
