DUSHANBE, November 2, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- On Wednesday November 2, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Ruhullo Hakimov, Chairman of Jaloliddini Rumi district, Khatlon province signed a grant contract for “The Project for Improvement of Central Hospital in Jaloliddini Rumi District” for the total amount of US$111,281, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe reported.

The Government of Japan in the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) will support a project on improvement of the health sector in Jaloliddini Rumi district.

The existing water pipe system of the hospital has never been replaced since the establishment of the hospital.  The hospital workers have to bring water from outside of the hospital in order to make a proper treatment for patients.  The unhygienic condition of the hospital and the lack of modern medical equipment have seriously affected to quality of medical treatment.

The water pipe system as well as a boiler room of the hospital will be totally rehabilitated through the project.  Moreover, surgical, reanimation and maternity departments of the hospital will be equipped with medical equipment such as Oxy generator and Defibrillator.  The project will enable the central hospital to provide more than 3,000 patients with a better medical treatment in appropriate environment.

The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) provides support to projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  The GGP is provided to local governments, NGOs, and educational and medical institutions in developing countries. The GGP has extended more than US$ 20.1 million for 274 projects in Tajikistan since 1996.
