KULOB, December 12, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Residents of the village of Chashmai Jushon in the Muminobod district have actively responded to the call of local authorities for mitigation of effects of a mudslide that hit the village last month, Sayfiddin Bozorov, head of the Muminobod water economy department, told Asia-Plus today.
According to him, torrential rain on November 17-18 caused a series of mudslides that damaged 16 residential buildings in the village and some 500 meters of rural road.
“The mud flow was so powerful that it burst the protection embankment,” said Bozorov, “We have to rehabilitate some 80 meters of the river bank reinforcement works of the Langar River.”
He added that the mudslide effects would be mitigated by means of ‘hashar’ (voluntary work for the benefit of community) and the local authorities and the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources (LRWR) had provided financial support for the mitigation operation.
