KHUJAND, March 16, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Raids made by officers from the Khujand police department have recorded more than 100 beggars and homeless people in the city, according to the Khujand mayor’s office.
“Of them, 70 people are the Luli (Central Asia’s Roma),” said the source. “The majority of the have been detained in public places, including the Panjshanbe Bazaar, as well as in neighborhoods ## 32 and 34.”
Over the past two months, 45 beggars have been sent to the Khujand detention center, the source said, noting that work in that direction is under way.
