DUSHANBE, July 25, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- Tajikistan’s media organizations have called n journalists to be very careful while covering ongoing events in Khorog, the administrative center of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (Gorno Badakhshan or GBAO) and not to release reports based on the false rumors.

On July 25, On July 24, Tajik Journalists’ Union (TJU), the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan (Nansmit), Media Alliance, Tajikistan’s Media Council as well as public associations Indem and Oryono-Media issued a joint statement saying that such reports can lead to increasing misunderstanding in society.

“Some websites and blog sites present the latest developments in Gorno Badakhshan as having regional and religious color that may have negative consequences in the country,” the statement noted.  “Tajikistan is our common home and Badakhshan is part of it.”

The media organizations also expressed regret over the blocking of website of the Asia-Plus News Agency and expressed hope that the website becomes accessible again as soon as possible.

Under such a situation, the relevant bodies of the country – the State Committee on national Security (SCNS), the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor-General’s Office – must set up a joint press center for constant distribution of information about the events in Gorno Badakhshan, the statement said.
