DUSHANBE, July 26, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- Beg Zuhurov, the chairman of the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan, blames technical problems for lack of communications link with Khorog, the administrative center of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (Gorno Badakhshan or GBAO).

According to him, a bullet allegedly hit a telephone wire.  “Overhead wires are used there,” Zuhurov said, citing “technical reasons” for lack of communications link with Khorog and some districts of Gorno Badakhshan.

He claims that no instructions were given to cut off communication line to Khorog.

Head of the communications service agency has also assured that communications link with Khorog and nearby districts will be restored in the near future.  “We have purchased 150 satellite phones abroad and they will be distributed in Khorog and nearby villages so that people could communicate with their relatives,” Zuhurov said.

We will recall that communication lines to Khorog and nearby districts were cut off at 4:00 am of July 24.
