DUSHANBE, September 12, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- The first online radio for Tajik labor migrants, Muhojir (Migrant), has gone on the air.

The radio director Rahim Qalandarov says several labor migrants working in Moscow have initiated the creation of the online radio.  “Thereby they have wanted to unite all Tajik labor migrants working in the Russian Federation and other countries of the world,” Qalandarov said.

According to him, they now have many listeners in Russia, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Kyrgyzstan.

At first they were going to open FM radio but they did not have enough money, and therefore, they decided to launch the online radio.

“Our radio plays only Tajik music and our listeners have an opportunity to call in with questions and wishes,” said Muhojir director.  “Besides, migrants, wanting to help their fellow-countrymen, also phone us.  Thereby, we could place four out fellow-countrymen in jobs over the past two weeks.”

He also added that they were not going to interfere in Tajikistan’s policy.  “We have opened the radio station not for the purpose of interfering in our country’s policy; our main objective is in uniting labor migrants.  However, a number of Tajik organizations active in the Russian Federation have already applied to us with solicitation not to interfere in politics,” Qalandarov said.
