DUSHANBE, December 26, 212 Asia-Plus 131 websites that were blocked last Monday are available on Internet in Tajikistan again.

Asomiddin Atoyev, the chairman of Tajikistan’s Association of Internet Service Providers, says Internet service providers Tuesday evening received an instruction from the communications service agency to unblock access to the website that were blocked on December 24 after a request by the state-run Communications Service.

We will recall that Tajikistan’s communications service agency Friday evening ordered Internet –providers to block access to 131 websites.

The Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan reportedly ordered providers to block mainly the websites posting music and video.

Russian social network sites “Moy Mir” and “Vkontakte” and the Tajik version of YouTube, topvideo.tj, were also on the so-called “black” list of websites to be blocked.

A letter by the communications service agency cited “technical reasons” for blocking access to those websites.

Meanwhile, social networks such as Facebook, which was blocked at the end of November, “Odnoklassniki” (Russia) and Twitter (an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets") were not on the list of sites to be blocked.
