DUSHANBE, February 23, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Russian migration authorities have met with ambassadors and consuls from the CIS member nations to explain the latest changes made to the Russian migration legislation.

Muhammad Egamzod, a spokesman for the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, says Mr. Abdulmajid Dostiyev, Tajik Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Ms. Sadbarg Ghaniyeva, Chairperson of the Consular Department, Tajik Embassy in Moscow and Mr. Asror Odinayev, head of Tajik migration service agency’s office in the Russian Federation, represented Tajikistan at the meeting.

The head of Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS), Konstantin Romodanovsky, reportedly acquainted those present with some aspects of the Russian legislation connected with implementation of the concept of Russia’s national migration policy designed for the period until 2025.

“They, in particular, considered issues related to staying and labor activity of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation, toughening of criminal responsibility for organization of illegal migration, documentation of refugees and stateless persons,” Egamzod said.

According to him, Romodanovsky stressed that those measures did not mean toughening of the migration legislation; they just meant toughening of responsibility for offenders.  Those who break the migration legislation will be barred from returning to Russia for three years.
