DUSHANBE, March 12, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Prevention of Domestic Violence in Tajikistan (PDV) Project will conduct seminars for Tajik journalists on the efficient coverage of the domestic violence issues.

According to PDV, one-day seminar will be conducted for journalists from Khatlon province in Qurghon Teppa on April 3, 2013 and for journalists from republican media sources in Dushanbe on April 4, 2013.

Journalists will be trained in analyzing the domestic violence situation and correctly covering these issues.  The seminar participants will also have an opportunity to share their experiences in the coverage of acute social problems, the source said.

The main objective of the PDV project is in reducing the acceptance and prevalence of domestic violence in the project areas.

The target group includes actual and potential victims of domestic violence but also people inflicting domestic violence. The project provides counseling services to 1500 people as the direct beneficiaries visiting the two crisis centers in Dushanbe and Qurghon Teppa.  In-directly the project works with the population in the communities.  The project is strengthening the capacities of local partners (NGOs, local authorities, policemen) working on the issue of domestic violence.

The project is implemented by GOPA Consultants, the leading German development consulting firm, under the sponsorship of the Swiss Agency fro Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Founded in 1965, GOPA has reportedly implemented over 3,000 management and training projects for national and international financing agencies as well as private industry in more than 130 countries.
