KULOB, July 8, 2013, Asia-Plus -- The Kulob mayor’s office has offered local government bodies and non-government organizations (NGOs) to hold an action of handicrafts made by people with disabilities (PWDs) in the city park every week.
The first such an auction was held by Kulob Mayor Abdughaffor Rahmonov on July 8 on the occasion of the Day of PWDs and Pensioners of Tajikistan.
International organization, Handicap International, distributed wheelchairs, sewing machines, walking sticks, hearing aids and glasses to children with disabilities.
1,300 children with disabilities now live in the city and the district of Kulob.
Handicap International is an independent international aid organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, it takes action and raises awareness in order to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.
Its first project in Tajikistan was established in 2010 in the Khatlon province, where it is working with local authorities to improve social, education and sanitation services for children with disabilities.
