DUSHANBE, November 4, 2013, Asia-Plus -- Remains of 55 officers and soldiers of the Soviet Army have surfaced 72 years after they died in an action near Kyiv in 1941 during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Sixteen soldiers were identified due to their soldier’s lockets and signed belongings. Among them is Rahmat Himatov from the Rasht district in eastern Tajikistan.
The remains were found by members of the Voluntary Archeological Patriotic Searching Association, Dnepr-Ukraina (Ukraine).
The remains were buried at the Glory Memorial cemetery near the village of Gatnoyev, Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district on November 2.
According to the website of the Memory Book of Ukraine, they managed to get in touch with Himatov’s grandson, Farrukh Muminov, due to assistance of the Asia-Plus News Agency.
Unfortunately, Farrukh Muminov could not go to Ukraine to attend the burial ceremony, and therefore, the soldier’s locket and belongings of his grandfather were handed over to Tajik consul.
