Tajikistan’s largest sports complex officially opened in Dushanbe on July 21, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The complex that has been built on Karamov Street reportedly meets requirements of Olympic standards. 

The complex has been built in the area of ten hectares opposite the Omar Khayyam Park.


The Dushanbe administration has funded the construction of this universal sports complex that began in 2012 and the cost of the project is reportedly 945 million somoni.

The building owner is the Dushanbe Capital Construction Directorate and the general contractor is the Stroy Compleks (Construction Complex) Limited Liability Company.

Besides, nineteen domestic and foreign companies have been in involved in the construction of this sports complex.  More than 2,000 people have been involved in construction of this facility, which is expected to create 600 new jobs.    

The complex design has been worked out by Russia’s Rostovgiprohakht.  The company has worked out the design taking into account the landscape.  The complex design as reportedly coordinated with the International Water Sports Federation.


The complex includes indoor and outdoor sports grounds, tennis courts as well as a 2000-seat Palace of Water Sports and outdoor swimming pool having 285 seats.  


An official opening ceremony of this universal sports complex was attended by President Emomali Rahmon and Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony, President Emomali Rahmon, in particular, noted the sports complex “is the best gift for youth and athletes on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the country’s independence.”
