Over the first six months of this year, birth registrations in Tajikistan has increased by 6.5% compared to the same period last year, Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, the head of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, told reporters in Dushanbe on August 7.
According to him, growth in birth registrations was observed in all regions except the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
Meanwhile, death registrations over the same period decreased by 1.6% compared to the first half of 2023. The natural population growth rate for the first half of this year was 8% compared to the same period last year.
Decline in unemployment
As of May 2024, the labor force in Tajikistan totaled 2.671 million people, with 2.623 million (98.2%) employed. The official unemployment rate was 1.8%, with 48,600 people registered as unemployed. The number of registered unemployed individuals at labor and employment agencies of the Ministry of Labor decreased by 1.5% compared to May 2023. Among them, 49.2% (23,900 people) were women.
Increase in meat prices
Prices for meat products increased by more than 6% in the first six months of this year. Specifically, beef prices rose by nearly 10%, while lamb prices increased by 7.4%.
In fish farming enterprises, over 1,673 tons of fish were harvested during this period. The production volume of fish products in the first half of the year amounted to 43.6 million somonis, which is 2% less than in the same period last year.
Foreign trade turnover
In the first half of this year, Tajikistan's foreign trade volume amounted to $4.417 billion, which is $1.053 billion more than in the same period last year. Imports during this period totaled $3.421 billion (a 26.1% increase), while exports reached $996.2 million (a 52.7% increase).
