Citing Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Board, Tigran Sarkisyan, Kyrgyz news agency AKIpress reported today that Kyrgyzstan has signed the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Customs Code, said Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sarkisyan.

Sarkisyan reportedly told reporters after the meeting of the EAEU Supreme Economic Council in St Petersburg on Monday that Kyrgyzstan did not sign the Customs Code at the signing ceremony, but agreed later on.

Kyrgyzstan still undecided on the statement on trade policy development, according to Sarkisyan.  “It is due to that the Kyrgyz colleagues suggest to clarify questions relating to lifting of barriers, elimination of restrictions, and we need to address this suggestion so that our colleagues were satisfied.  The rest of the documents of the agenda were signed.  Belarus is left to sign them," he said.

Recall, Russian media outlets reported yesterday evening that Kyrgyzstan refused to sign the Eurasian Economic Union's (EAEU) Customs Code and a statement on the development of EAEU trade policies.

Kyrgyzstan did not sign the Eurasian Economic Union's (EAEU) Customs Code during an EAEU Supreme Economic Council meeting on Monday, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board Tigran Sarkisyan was cited as saying by Russian news agency Sputnik. 

According to Sarkisyan, only three EAEU members signed a statement on the development of EAEU trade policies and the EAEU Customs Code during the meeting as Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko did not attend the event and Kyrgyzstan refused to sign them.

The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is an economic union of states located primarily in northern Eurasia.  A treaty aiming for the establishment of the EAEU was signed on May 29, 2014 by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, and came into force on January 1, 2015. Treaties aiming for Armenia's and Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union were signed on October 9 and December 23, 2014, respectively.  Armenia's accession treaty came into force on January 2, 2015.  Kyrgyzstan's accession treaty came into effect on August 6, 2015. It participated in the EAEU from the day of its establishment as an acceding state.
