Taliban militants are staying practically along the whole Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and confrontation between the Taliban movement and the so-called Islamic State (IS) terror group is deteriorating the situation in the country even more, Russian news agency TASS quoted Putin, as saying yesterday during a meeting with the parliamentary leadership.

Expressing concern over deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, Putin reportedly backed the presence of the United States military in the war-torn country.

“Indeed, it [the situation with terrorist threat in Afghanistan] has worsened; it is true, it keeps deteriorating,” Russian president was quoted as saying.

“But if the US were not there, it would probably be worse,” Putting said.

Looking past the “complex relationship” of Russia and the US, Putin urged to “approach the subject objectively.”
