Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law expanding the grounds for terminating employment contracts with foreign nationals.
RBC reports that according to the amendments to Article 327.6 of the Russian Labor Code, starting March 1, 2026, employers will be able to dismiss migrant workers if the regional limits on the number of foreign employees are exceeded.
The legislative initiative came from members of the "New People" party, who argue that the measure will reduce the risk of legal disputes between employers and dismissed workers.
Since 2014, Russian regions have had the right to set annual quotas for hiring foreign labor. Companies that violate these limits may face fines ranging from 800,000 to 1 million rubles or suspension of operations for up to two weeks.
