DUSHANBE, May 23, Asia-Plus - Young athletes from Dushanbe won republican sports and athletics meeting for youth that was held at the central stadium in Dushanbe on May 18-22, getting 42 gold medals.

Nargis Nabiyeva, the chairperson of the physical training and sports development department of the Committee for Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism under the Government of Tajikistan, said that more than 600 young athletes from all regions of the country participated in that sports event. 

According to her, they competed in eight types of sports such as basketball, volleyball, free-style wrestling, judo, boxing, Greek-Roman wrestling, sambo (combat sport and self-defense system developed in the former Soviet Union), and athletics. 

The Sughd province with 24 gold medals was second and young athletes from Khatlon, who won 10 gold medals, stood in third place. 

She added that winners will be included on Tajikistan’s youth national team that will take part in the youth sports and athletics meeting of Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) that will be held in Belarus in September this year.
