DUSHANBE, August 21, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan will have another medal – at least the silver one – in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games as Yusuf Abdusalomov, participating in the -84 kilogram division, advanced into Men’s Freestyle Wrestling final.
According to Narzullo Latifov, president of the Association of Sports reporters of Tajikistan, Tajik wrestler secured his place in the final by beating opponent Serhat Balci of Turkey 3-0 and 1-0 in the semifinal.
In the round of 16, Abdusalomov defeated Australia’s Kumar Sandep 8-0 and in the quarterfinal, he beat Taras Danko of Ukraine 7-0.
In the final, Yusuf will compete for gold medal with Georgia’s Revazi Mindorashvili, who defeated Georgy Ketoyev of Russia 4-2 and 7-3 in the semifinal.
The final match will begin today at 1:00 p.m. Dushanbe time.
We will recall that Yusuf Abdusalomov, 30, finished ninth in Athens. He took a gold medal in 2003 Asian Championships (-74 kg). Yusuf also took a silver medal at the 2007 World Championships (-84 kg) and a bronze medal in the 2008 Asian Championships.
