DUSHANBE , March 17, Asia-Plus -- Visiting EU special representative for Central Asia , Jan Kubis, met with Said Abdullo Nuri, leader of Tajikistan ’s Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) on Thursday, March 16.

According to information from the IRPT headquarters in Dushanbe , in the course of the talks the two discussed problems facing social, economic and cultural spheres in Tajikistan .

During the meeting it was also noted that there was still a risk of destabilization of the political situation in Tajikistan because the remainders of anti-government forces of the rebellious colonel Mahmoud Khodyberdiyev were still staying on the territory of neighboring Uzbekistan

Said Abdullo Nuri also briefed the EU envoy on further plans of the party, including participation in the upcoming presidential election in the republic.

As it had been reported earlier, Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda, a spokesman for the IRPT, announced in late February that their party would run its own candidate in the November presidential election.   But Sayfullozoda did not say who the IRPT candidate might be.
