DUSHANBE, April 11, Asia-Plus - Tajik deminers have set to clearing landmines in the southern district of Panj on the border with Afghanistan, according to information from Tajikistan’s Mine Action Cell (TMAC). 

Parviz Mavlonqulov, the TMAC deputy manager, has told Asia-Plus that they have clear of landmines an area of 2000 square meters near the Halqayor water-intake facility in the Panj district.  According to him, the demining work is supposed to have been finished by the end of the year. 

Since 2003 when mine action work started in the republic, the Tajik Mine Action Cell has cleared more than 180,000 square meters of land and installed over 3,000 warning signs in high-risk areas, destroying over 2,100 landmines and unexploded ordinance (UXOs).
