DUSHANBE, June 14, Asia-Plus - Life-saving medical supplies worth $1.3 million were donated by the people of the United States to the Tursunzoda Central District Hospital on June 14.
U.S. Charge d''Affaires Thomas Armbruster, Deputy Chairman of Tursunzoda Matluba Boboyeva, and Head Doctor Fayzullo Murodov participated in the handover of antibiotics, cardiological medicines, burn cream and other important pharmaceuticals.
At the hospital, Charge d''Affaires Armbruster remarked, "It is a tremendous responsibility to care for a population of nearly 228,000 people in Tursunzoda. Our hope is that these medicines support the hospital''s staff in their efforts to care for the community. We are glad for the opportunity to work with Project HOPE and help the people of Tajikistan. I am sure we can all look forward to future assistance."
For her part, Ms. Matluba Boboyeva stated that the donated medical supplies would be distributed among vulnerable families through 30 medical facilities operating in the district.
Head Doctor Fayzullo Murodov telling the medicines-handover ceremony noted that the central district hospital had urgent needs in the up-to-date medical equipment and generators.
The hospital was put into operation 16 years ago and some 18,000 people, including residents of neighboring Uzbekistan, annually undergo medical treatment in this medical facility.
The United States, through Project HOPE, has donated millions of dollars worth of medical supplies to Tajikistan over the past years. In this latest round of assistance, $12 million of medical supplies will be distributed to hospitals throughout
