Union

The 10
th
congress of the Tajik Journalists’
Union
was held in
Dushanbe
on Saturday, June 17. The congress elected a new composition of the union’s board comprising 17 people. Representatives from central and regional media were elected to the board. The congress also complied with request of former head of the Tajik Journalists’ Union Mirzohayot Davlatov for resignation for health reasons and elected Akbarali Sattorov new Chairman of the Tajik Union of Journalists.
Mr. Sattorov telling the congress noted that he intended, first of all, to improve a financial state of the union, regulate work with personnel, resolve the problem with place for the union’s office, as well as open the union’s website and establish, as far as possible, official paper of
Tajikistan
’s Union of Journalists.
During the congress it was decided that till the next congress the post of the head of the Tajik Journalists’
Union
would remain not on permanent staff that is Sattorov would hold two offices: Chairman of the Tajik Journalists’
Union
and Director General of the Media Holding “Charkhi Gardun”.
As it had been reported earlier a court in
Dushanbe
in early April halted the activities of the Tajik Union of Journalists for three months. The court argued that the union''s charter violates provisions of Tajik law. The Justice Ministry said that the union was informed of the problems in its charter 30 days ago and ignored a request to rectify them. It was noted that the union would be dissolved if it fails to resolve the problem in three months.
