DUSHANBE, August 24, Asia-Plus — Dehqan (peasant) farmers in Tajikistan have produced 340,803 tons of cereals, including wheat, rice, and maize, by August 24, Asia-Plus has learned at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP).

The source at MoAEP said that this year, farming units have sown cereals on 273,403 hectares. 

The national target for this year has been determined at 4999,346 tons of cereals, and experts believe the target  will be fulfilled, according to the source 

Every year, some 400,000 hectares of farmland are allotted to dehqan farms and population for sowing with cereals and as a rule, all the harvest is gathered, the source said. 

“There have been isolated cases, when a part of grain harvest has not bee gathered because of bad weather conditions or natural disasters,” said the Asia-Plus interlocutor, “This year, no serious damage has been caused to the grain sector and the target will be fulfilled.”
