DUSHANBE, April 23, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Tajikaeronavigatsiya (Tajik air navigation) is currently testing a new recently established Era multilateration surveillance system (MSS) at its secondary center in Kuhjand, the Tajikaeronavigatsiya director general Anvar Maqsoudov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 22.
“Specialists from the Czech company who have installed the system are currently in Khujand,” Maqsoudov said, noting that Tajikistan is the first among the Central Asian nations to install the Era multilateration surveillance system.
According to him, the Era MSS will be introduced in the country in three stages. At the first stage, it has been installed in Sughd province and next year, it will be installed in Gorno Badakhshan and Khatlon province.
The Tajikaeronavigatsiya director noted that a contract for more than 1 million U.S. dollars was signed with Era Corporation last summer.
Multilateration is the process of locating an object by accurately computing the time difference of arrival (TDOA) of a signal emitted from that object to three or more receivers. It also refers to the case of locating a receiver by measuring the TDOA of a signal transmitted from three or more synchronized transmitters. Multilateration is commonly used in civil and military surveillance applications to accurately locate an aircraft, vehicle or stationary emitter by measuring the time difference of arrival (TDOA) of a signal from the emitter at three or more receiver sites.
