DUSHANBE, July 21, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Railways plans to spend some 20 million U.S. dollars this year for renewal of its rolling stock, the Tajik Railways top manager Amonullo Hukumov told reporters on July 20.
According to him, they plan to buy ten passenger carriages until the end of this year. “They will come to some 13 million U.S. dollars,” Hukumov said.
Tajik rail company also intends to purchase a diesel locomotive at the cost of 5 million U.S. dollars.
Hukumov said they mainly purchased second hand carriages that underwent major repairs because the new ones were very expensive. “Over the past two years, we have purchased some 40 cargo cars,” the Tajik Railways head noted.
Tajikistan’s rolling-stock now includes 1,929 cargo cars, 424 passenger carriages and 55 diesel locomotives.
