DUSHANBE, February 19, 2013, Asia-Plus -- On Tuesday February 19, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Mr. Saroj Kumar Jha, World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia.
The president’s official website says the two discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank.
They, in particular, discussed the World Bank’s support for enhancement of energy, agrarian, education and health sectors as well as social protection of the population in Tajikistan.
The assessment studies for the Roghun hydropower project (HPP) and the Central Asia South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA 1000) were also among the major topics of the meeting.
The active portfolio of the World Bank in Tajikistan currently consists of 15 projects with a net commitment of around US$ 252.8 million. The largest share of the portfolio is in agriculture and rural development (27 percent), followed by energy (24 percent), water and sanitation (18 percent), human development – education, health and social protection (24 percent), the private sector (4 percent) and the public sector (2 percent).
