The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved an additional $38 million in grant funding for a project to rehabilitate and expand the water supply and sanitation infrastructure in Dushanbe, according to a press release from this regional financial institution.
It is noted that the funds will be used to strengthen the institutional capacity of the State Water Supply and Sanitation Enterprise “Dushanbevodokanal” and promote the empowerment of women in the country.
The report said the new funding complements an ADB grant of about $41.2 million approved in 2018 to improve water and sanitation systems in the Tajik capital..
«The project will complement investments and institutional reforms undertaken by other development partners and improve the quality of life, health, urban resilience and economic growth in Dushanbe", - said ADB Director General for Central and West Asia Evgeny Zhukov.
It is expected that as a result of the implementation of this project, 125 thousand people will receive round-the-clock water supply and 500 thousand people will improve sewerage conditions.
