DUSHANBE, September 25, Asia-Plus -- On Saturday September 23, Abdurrahmon Abdumannonov, the first deputy head of the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, telling the seminar “The Media and The Right of Citizens to Participate in the Political Life and Management of State” noted that the established press center of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) will start its work on October 1.
According to him, it will organize press conferences and issue press releases as well as a hotline for providing necessary information about preparation and holding of the presidential election.
Abdumannonov pointed out the necessity of journalists being aware of all laws regulating a process of election and rights and duties of appropriate subjects. He, in particular, noted that some journalists are even not well aware of laws on media and do not know their rights.
Mirojiddin Hakimov, an official with the Prosecutor-General’s Office, telling the seminar dwelled on Articles 135 (libel) and 136 (insulting) of Tajikistan’s Criminal Code. He called on journalists to observe laws and double check all facts before publishing.
