DUSHANBE, April 27, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) has distributed humanitarian aid to residents of the village of 18th Partsyezd in Khatlon’s Khuroson district that was affected by flood on April 21.
According to RCS’ head office in Dushanbe, their team on April 21 closely monitored the site to assess the actual damage caused to the village by the flood. In parallel, they helped evacuate the flood-affected people to safe place and organize first aid stations.
S. Imomov, the emergency management program coordinator, the RCS branch in Qurghon Teppa, noted that 35 tents, 250 blankets, mattresses and pillows, 100 water tanks, 100 plastic pails and 50 sets of kitchen appliances had been distributed to the flood-affected people. “We plan to deliver another consignment of relief supplies and basic essential to the village in the near future,” Imomov said.
Flood caused on April 21 by mud flow damaged 61 residential buildings in the village of18th Partsyezd; 19 houses were destroyed completely. No casualties were reported.
