DUSHANBE, September 28, 2012, Asia-Plus – Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi who is representing Tajikistan at the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly yesterday attended an informal meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) ministers of foreign affairs in New York.

The Tajik MFA information department reports the meeting participants exchanged views on foreign policy coordination and further cooperation between the CSTO member nations regarding key problems and updating instructions to permanent representatives of the CSTO member nations to international organizations.

The CSTO foreign ministers reportedly adopted a joint statement on Syria and the situation around the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Meanwhile, Tajik Deputy Foreign Minister, Nizomiddin Zohidov, yesterday met in Dushanbe with Mr. Saber Azam, UNHCR Regional Representative/Regional Coordinator in Central Asia.

The two reportedly discussed legal issues related to stateless persons (apatrides) living in Tajikistan and other Central Asia’s countries as well as Tajikistan’s contribution to implementation of the Almaty Declaration.

On the same day, Tajik deputy foreign minister met here with Mr. Sultan Alan, an envoy of His Highness the Aga Khan.

Issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and implementation of the project for opening of the University of Central Asia (UCA)’s campus in Khorog were a major topic of the meeting, the source said.
