DUSHANBE, October 9, Asia-Plus – On Monday October 8, Ms. Susan Elliott, Ambassador of the United States to Tajikistan, presented a copy of her credentials to Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, the Tajik MFA information department reported.
At the meeting that was held after the copy of credentials presentation ceremony, the two reportedly exchanged views on state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States.
Ms. Susan Elliott replaced Mr. Kenneth Gross, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan from 2009 to 2012.
Ambassador Susan M. Elliott is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Prior to becoming Ambassador, she was the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Deputy Assistant Secretary responsible for Central Asia from 2010 to 2012.
Ms. Elliott’s previous assignments include Moscow, Russia where she served as the Minister Counselor for Political Affairs from 2009 to 2010 and Belfast, Northern Ireland where she was the Principal Officer from 2007 to 2009.
Prior to that, she worked in Washington as a Deputy Executive Secretary on the staff of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. During her tenure on Secretary Rice’s staff, Ms. Elliott’s main areas of regional responsibility included Europe, South and Central Asia. Earlier in her career she served in Greece, Russia and Peru.
