DUSHANBE, October 24, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’ upper house (Majlisi Milli) of parliament and Russia’s upper house (Federation Council) of parliament have signed a cooperation agreement.
The document was inked by Mr. Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli, and Ms. Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council, in Moscow on October 23.
According to the Federation Council’s website, the document reflects the main directions of activity on legislative support for bilateral cooperation between the Russian Federation and Tajikistan.
In the course of the talks, the sides reportedly stated boost in bilateral cooperation both at the government and inter-parliamentary levels.
A special attention was paid to developing joint business projects, facilitating inflow of Russian investments in Tajikistan’s economy, and labor migration regulation issues.
Over the first nine months of this year, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Russia has exceeded one billion U.S. dollars, which is more than 50 percent more than in the same period last year.
