DUSHANBE , June 2, Asia-Plus - The International Foundation for Election Funds (IFES) has donated 500 copies of “The Human Rights Aid for MPs” to the Majlisi Namoyandagon ( Tajikistan ’s lower chamber of parliament).

Ms Katherine Muller, Country Director of IFES in Tajikistan , handed over the books to Saydullo Khairulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, today, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, said. 

According to him, in the course of the talks, Khairulloyev briefed Ms. Muller on the activity of Tajik professional parliament.  “Our country maintains relations with many authoritative international political and financial institutions,” Saydullo Khairulloyev was cited as saying.  Khairulloyev noted Tajikistan attached important significance to the activity of IFES to raise legal literacy of Tajik citizens.  

For her part, Ms. Muller noted that within the framework of its projects such as “Civic Education”, “Student Local Government Day”, “University Conversation Clubs” and others, IFES tried to provide assistance in promoting further democratization of society, in raising legal literacy among students and pupils, and in encouraging citizens to take active part in social life, according to Sultonov.  

The books donated to the Majlisi Namoyandagon were published under financial support of IFES and the U.K. Embassy in Dushanbe , the Majlisi Namoyandagon spokesman said.
