DUSHANBE, August 13, Asia-Plus – day.az – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today started its official two-day visit to Azerbaijan. 

Azeri web site day.az says that a private meeting of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev with his Tajik counterpart, President Emomali Rahmon, discussed all aspects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.    

Following the private meeting, negotiations in an enlarged format with participation of members of the governments of the two countries were held, the Azeri website said.  

Telling the enlarged negotiations, Azeri President said that his country attaches a great significance to expansion of bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan.  Aliyev noted that he had ordered ministers to work out large economic projects of integrating nature.  “In the near future, Azerbaijan will open its diplomatic mission in Tajikistan,” President Aliyev said.  

According to Aliyev, mutual visits between high-ranking state officials of the two countries are evidence of further development of political relations between the two countries.  “We have discussed a broad range of issues related to political and economic cooperation,” Aliyev said.  

For his part, President Rahmon noted President Aliyev’s visit to Tajikistan had given a new impulse for further expansion of relations between the two countries.

As it had been reported earlier, the sides are supposed to sign agreements on cooperation in the field of free trade, scientific-technical cooperation, avoiding double taxation, communications cooperation, cooperation between the justice ministries of the two countries, and cooperation between the governments on principles of collection of indirect taxes on goods and services.  The sides will also sign a protocol on aerial communication cooperation between the national airlines of the two countries.  

 During his stay in Baku, Rahmon is also scheduled to hold talks with other high-ranking Azerbaijani state officials.  

We will recall that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was on his official visit to Tajikistan on March 15-16 this year.  On March 15, he met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.  The sides noted that attached great importance to their bilateral relations and indicated their readiness to expand cooperation in all spheres, including economy and trade.  Aliyev also noted that Azerbaijan has decided to open an embassy in Dushanbe.  During Aliyev’s visit to Dushanbe, a number of bilateral cooperation documents, including an agreement on visa-free travel, were signed.
