DUSHANBE, June 11, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Police officers have reportedly seized a large amount of cannabis in Khatlon’s Shouroobod district bordering Afghanistan.
An official source at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) says police officers carried out an anti-drug operation in the district on June 10.
“Afghan drug traffickers put up an armed resistance but they were forced to retreat to the contiguous territory,” said the source. “100.6 kilograms of cannabis and the TOZ-16 rifle were found on the spot.”
Meanwhile, an operation carried out by police officers in the Shouroobod district on June 6 led to the seizure of more than 90 kilograms of narcotics, the source added.
