KULOB, August 22, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Two fatal cases of hemorrhagic fever have been registered in Khatlon’s Kulob region, according to the Kulob health directorate.
In all, eight cases of hemorrhagic fever have bee detected in the area this year, which is twice as much compared to last year, the source said. According to him, the hemorrhagic fever cases have been registered in Danghara, Temourmalik, Baljuvon and Muminobod districts.
The fatal cases of hemorrhagic fever were registered in May in Muminobod district and in July in Danghara district.
We will recall that three fatal cases of hemorrhagic fever were registered in Tursunzoda district (western Tajikistan) in early August of 2009.
Usually, the Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is registered in Tajikistan.

The pathogenic virus, especially common in East and West Africa, is a member of the Bunyaviridae family of RNA viruses. Clinical disease is rare in infected mammals, but commonly severe in infected humans, with a 30% mortality rate. Outbreaks of illness are usually attributable to handling infected animals or people.
